Michael Douglas,His life today


Michael Douglas was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, United states in September 25, 1944. He was the first son of actor Kirk Douglas and Bermudian actress Diana Dill.


Michael Douglas is an American actor and producer since 1966 until present. He started his film career in the late 60s and early 70s appearing in little know films like Hail, Hero and Summertree. His first significant role came in the TV series The Streets of San Francisco from 1972 to 1976 where he stared along side with Karl Malden who became his mentor until her death on July 1, 2009.

Douglas‘s acting career propelled to fame when he starred in the 1984 romantic adventure comedy Romancing the Stone. The film was a respectable hit and earned over $86,572,238 worldwide in box –office receipts and an additional $36 million in video rentals. Being successful was followed by a sequel a year later in 1985 The Jewel of the Nile. 1987 opened more doors for him as he stared in the thriller Fatal Attraction with Glenn Close. And that was the same year when he played tycoon Gordon Gekko in Oliver Stone’s Wall Street. He received an Academy Award as Best Actor that year.

In his personal life, Douglas married Diandra Luker, 14 years his junior after 6 weeks of dating and had a son with her called Cameron. He got involve with serious skiing accident which sidelined his acting career for three years. Diandra divorced him in late 2009, then he met and Married Catherin Zeta-Jones the Welsh actress in November 2000, she was 25 years his younger. They had two children Dylan Michael and Carys Zeta.

There was an announcement on August 2010, that Douglas was suffering from throat cancer and will undergo chemotherapy and radiation treatment. At the end of that same month, Douglas aired on Late Night Show with David Letterman and confirmed that the cancer is at an advanced stage.

The 66 year old actor is really worried about his illness which he revealed has spread beyond its original tumour and has advanced to more area than expected. He felt bad as he said the cancer was caused by a lifetime of drinking and smoking. He is still currently undergoing treatments of Chemotherapy and puts his survival odds at around 80%.

He has won three Golden Globes and two Academy Awards. He was Best Actor in 1987 for his role in Wall Street. He also received the AFI Life Achievement Award in 2009 and the Crystal Globe award for outstanding artistic contribution to world cinema at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.

He just came back recently this 2010 with the sequel, reprised his role as Gekko in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps which was also directed by Oliver Stone. He came back with great energy and amazing experience. He was a legend in the film as his fans waited to see how he will take the sequel. He won plaudits for reprising the role of Gekko. The film premiered at 2010 Cannes film festival.

Today, the legend has been recuperating from the side effect of chemotherapy and radiation, he is looking thin and frail, prompting speculation his health has taken a dramatic turn for the worse. His 31 year old son is serving time in Lewisburg federal Prison Camp and is expected to be released in December 2013, they are hoping he could get out a year early if he completes a prison drug-treatment program.

Michael Douglas have stared in fourthly three films and six documentaries, he also have two more films on the making which are due in 2011. As a film legend and a great actor loved by many, what has the future got for him?
